| The Mission Gateleg is a type of table was first used in England in the 16th century. The top has a fixed section with two hinged sections, which, when not in use, hang vertically. The hinged section is supported on pivoted legs joined at the top and bottom by stretchers and so constituting a "gate". The style shown above is Mission.
